The Shetland Sheepdog
The Shetland Sheepdog is essentially a working Collie in miniature. A rough-coated, longhaired working dog, they are alert, loyal and are usually easy to train dogs.  With abundant intelligence they excel at many activities including breed, agility and obedience.

Originating from the Border Collie of Scotland, it was in the Shetland Islands that they were developed, crossed with small, long haired breeds and reduced in size.  At times crosses were made with Collies.  They thrived on the farms as general helpers watching over and protecting their property and herds.

Shelties are generally easily adaptable to different lifestyles if they receive sufficient exercise.  They may be reserved towards people that aren't members of their family.  Their beautiful double coats require regular grooming.
